“My Home Town” Note Cards

Pear Trees on Main Street

I’ve reprinted this set of one dozen different images from my entries in our annual exhibit, “Carnegie Painted”. This time they are 4.25″ x 5.5″ instead of 4″ x 6″—I was spending more time finding four different sizes of envelope and greeting card boxes and other packaging, so I decided to print these in a size for which envelopes and packaging are easily found.

Library Avenue

I’ve been working with images of Carnegie, Pennsylvania since I moved back here after graduating college. I might seem to prefer the personalities of animals and the moods of nature, but I also love the look of a street lined with houses and trees, quaint old storefronts or someone’s laundry hanging in the back yard. The 3rd Street Gallery began hosting “Carnegie Painted” in the year 2000, encouraging artists to paint images of the town and exhibit them all together, and these images are some of my entries in that show.

Find the My Home Town note cards gallery in the Marketplace on my website to see the images of all the cards and to order. You can read the story of each image in my main gallery at My Home Town.

You can also find prints of this artwork on the My Home Town Originals and Prints page.

“Kitties Being Kitties” Note Cards

Sometimes the simplicity of a single color line or tone on a beautiful paper stock tells the story more expressively than a full-color, scenic rendering.

The expressions, coat patterns and close-cropped scenes of cats just being the individuals they are inspired me to create these little cameos. Of all the cats I’ve lived with over the years, I’ve only briefly fostered a black and white cat, so even long ago these spotted faces were fun to discover!

Big Game Hunter

I did these drawings years ago in response to a request to design some notecards that could be used for professional correspondence by animal professionals.

In those days, before color printing technology became easily affordable, line art printed in one color was the way to go for an inexpensive, versatile note card, and I had always admired cards that were printed on natural paper with a mild texture that resembled watercolor paper.

I Like Your Spots

That project never finalized, but I had the line drawings just waiting for something, so I decided to print them for myself.

Three are pen and ink, one is done in pencil on a textured drawing paper called coquille board which has a surface textured with raised fine-speckled grain although the surface is pure white.

They Miss You When You’re Gone

These drawings are printed in black on natural recyclable cotton 80 lb. cover stock and are blank inside. Cards are 4-1/2″ x 6-1/4″ with matching envelopes, $12.00 for a box of one dozen.

They are available:

  • in packs of 12 with three cards in each of the four images
  • in packs of 12 cards in one design

Packs or boxes of different combinations are available on request. Visit my Marketplace to order.

Backyard Bird-inspired Greeting Cards

In addition to Eye on the Sparrow notecards and writing paper, I have a few other images printed as blank greeting cards that also celebrate the winter season. Each of these designs are available as 5″ x 7″ greeting cards, some of them as square cards depending on the image. Visit mty online Marketplace under “wildlife” for details on art, notecards and greeting cards.

Birds in Snow

These birds were actually pecking around in the snow under a bird feeder, but their random order and little shadows were intriguing. This was done en plein air–but not outside so I wouldn’t cause the birds to fly off.

Biding Time

What do doves do all day? Just kind of hang out waiting for something to happen. These doves are hanging out in the maple tree outside my bedroon window. The drawing is done in pencil with very slight watercolor washes to show the bird’s breast tarnish and the slight gather of moss on the tree branch.

Ducks

These mallards are floating along on Chartiers Creek, which flows through the town I live in and which forms our local watershed. The sky is reflecting on the water’s surface giving it that solid appearance.

Snowbird

There’s a bird, and there’s snow, and this also happens to be a “snowbird”, or a dark-eyed junco, clinging to a forsythia branch in my backyard.

Jammin' Jay Blues

When a bunch of blue jays get together, you know it. This one particular section of a tree in my backyard is a favorite place for jam sessions.

“Eye on the Sparrow”, note cards inspired by birds, nature and winter

Snowbird

I feed birds at feeders all year, but in winter have many more feeders to enjoy, and as I travel around on foot or on bike I carry a little 5” x 8” sketchbook and small drawing paper scraps plus various pens and pencils, charcoal and ink. The stark light of winter, branches and shadows etched on fresh snow and the quick movements of birds make me leave the complications of my pastels behind in favor of quick sketches.

This set of notecards was compiled from years of little sketches I did for enjoyment and kept in the sketchbooks.

Tired of e-mail? Write a letter or send a notecard!

After Dinner Nap notecard

A gift for yourself to correspond with friends–or a gift for friends to correspond with you!

I get a little tired of e-mail, partly because I get a little tired of being at my computer. And a generic-looking e-mail message isn’t always what I want to send to a friend as congratulations, condolence, or just a “thinking of you” note.

A set of notecards or a package of notepaper is a perfect way to keep in touch. I began printing my original cat paintings on notecards years ago because I love to write little notes bearing images I know the recipient will love. I carry both feline notecards and wildlife notecards; in this post I’ll cover feline images.

My Cats in the Sun, 4 designs

After Dinner Nap A Warm BathA Rosy GlowThe Little SunflowerBright sunshine on anything will inspire me, especially when it’s illuminating one of my cats…and so I’d like to share that inspiration with other feline fans. These four designs are printed from my original artwork, each of them cats who’ve shared my life past and present.

Cards include a border as shown, and are printed in black, brown or rust on various natural color cover stocks in coordinating earth tones. They are blank inside, 4-1/2” x 6-1/4” and come with ivory envelopes. See below for samples of cards.

They are available in packs of 12 with three cards in each of the four images. Packs or boxes of individual images or different combinations are available on request. Visit my Marketplace to order.

Feline Sketches Notecards and Notepaper, nine designs

Conversation With a Daisy notecareIn the BagReady for PlaySleeping Beauty My ever-inspiring family of felines causes me to carry both my camera and a sketch pad around the house. Quick, simple pencil sketches catch them hanging around the house and are my favorite warm-up to creating larger pieces of artwork. While I could live three lifetimes and never be finished with the images I can create from my group, friends also give me photos that are too good to pass up. Pencil can be challenging to reproduce, and I’m happy to introduce a new series in addition to my pen and ink and my full-color fine art notecards series.

All products are printed in soy-based ink on 25% cotton fiber stock with a 35% recycled content. In addition, the paper was manufactured in the USA using windpower using no bleach from trees in a managed woodlot. Cards are 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ with matching envelopes.

They are available in packs of 12 in various combinations. Packs or boxes of individual images or different combinations are available on request.
